Why there are books next to the writing.
Two halves of one habit: what I wrote, and what was open on the desk while I wrote it.
The writing
Nothing is tidied afterwards.
This is an intimate collection of confessions, observations, and raw moments—my first literary project.
Writing goes in as it was written and is never tidied afterwards. What changes is what surrounds it: who it was about, where it happened, what it turned out to be about, and which books were open at the time.
The books
Every one I kept.
The other half is the Black Shelf. A hundred of them are ranked, each with a reason written for it and a dossier of its own; the rest stand on fourteen shelves by subject. None of it is a recommendation engine. It is what I actually own, in the order I would hand it to you.
Who is writing
I love systems.
I write, and I build software. The same thing pleases me in both: clear boundaries, work you can recover from, and something that still makes sense once whoever built it has gone. That is most of what there is to say about me here. The rest is on the shelf and in the notebook.

j3w1.github.io is a web version of the Manjaro i3 workstation I used to work in — its workspaces, terminal, file manager, system bar, and all. It is also where the rest of what I build lives.
How it works
Plain, and on purpose.
No accounts, no ratings, no comments, nothing from a stranger unless I asked for it. The catalogue is compiled into the site, so a page never fails just because a database is cold. The writing deliberately is not: with no database the notebook is simply empty, and prose I have not published cannot end up somewhere it should not be.

Start anywhere.
A fragment names the people and the places in it. A person lists everything they appear in. An idea shows both what I wrote and what I read. Or let the site choose for you, and see where it puts you.
