Building AI-Powered Products: The Essential Guide to AI and GenAI Product Management
I keep this at #38 because directly relevant to turning AI capability into useful products, metrics, strategy, and execution. I still need its pressure.
The long version
Marily Nika frames AI product management around user problems, feasibility, data, model behavior, responsible deployment, team composition, metrics, and iterative delivery. The book helps product leaders translate probabilistic capability into a coherent product strategy instead of adding an AI feature because the technology is fashionable. I return to it when I need a book that makes how a decision becomes an offer, a system, or a life with consequences personal again.
Why it is here
It complements the engineering books with the product questions that determine whether a capable model becomes a useful experience. It is especially valuable for aligning technical evaluation with user outcomes, operational constraints, trust, and business value. I do not want the lesson to become another sentence I agree with and leave behind.
How to read it
Choose one product concept and maintain a one-page AI product brief: user, task, baseline, model role, data, risks, evaluation, feedback, and fallback. Update it after each chapter and reject any feature whose value cannot be measured. I will stop long enough to write what the chapter changes, if anything.
What it taught me
- 01
AI opportunities should begin with a user problem and a defensible source of value.
- 02
Product metrics must capture model quality, experience quality, and business outcomes.
- 03
Responsible AI choices belong throughout discovery and delivery, not only at launch.
